This area around Rama IX (9) and Ratchadapisek was always going to grow once the MRT station opened a few years ago.
The underground stop is Phra Rama IX, where visitors will find outside the big shopping mall of Fortune Town and the clubs in River City Avenue.
To get to the RCA from the MRT its best to take a taxi, since it is a bit of a walk.
Also nearby are the big open fish restaurants at The White House, near Soi 5, and the nightclubs of Soi 4 and 6.
It’s a vibrant night scene, and anyone traveling by taxi through Ratchada at 3 in the morning will see just how popular this area is.
RCA, as it is known, is one long street of bars and restaurants linking Petchaburi and Rama IV roads.
There are some very good Japanese and Italian restaurants here, but be prepared to wait.
Sushi is very popular amongst young Thais and even the fairly ordinary Oishi restaurants have customers waiting for a table at weekends.
Coffee shops such as Starbucks sit amongst the very sophisticated clubs and bars of the RCA.
The area is one of the favourite haunts of the wealthier young Thai generation, with some of the most impressive clubs of Bangkok.
Being away from the tourist areas of Sukhumvit, it ensures that the clubbers are less affected by tourist visitors and can enjoy a good night out with Thai friends.
It is much more of a Thai entertainment area than most of Bangkok and clubs which attract this sophisticated group of Bangkokians are Slim, Route 66 and Dude.
